Kinesthetic Listening in public space
A participatory, interdisciplinary project, is also an artistic research
What means Kinesthetic Listening?
Kinesthetic Listening is a term coined by Stephanie Schroedter, which describes the phenomenon of interweaving one's own movements, movements in space, and/or ideas of movement with auditory perception and/or ideas of sound. In simpler terms, it asks how we deal with our listening and moving, and what happens in between?
Why It means something to me?
For some time now, I have been interested in using listening and movement activities in public spaces. Kinesthetic listening has the potential to create an equal and communicative way for people to engage with each other and the complex environment around them, not only in relation to music and movement but also in terms of how individuals perceive their surroundings. By engaging in these activities, we can uncover unnoticed and sensitive experiences, such as why we might feel unsafe or dislike a place, or why we might feel drawn to stay or leave. Although my current research question does not address the embodiment of social class, it is an important factor that is embedded in this work..
