Research Session 4 - “Ongoing Repetition“
By Xue and Li He
Resistance & Flow
In this session, using ongoing repetition, we will explore and experiment with the possibilities of integrating resistance and flow. Starting by introducing and practicing from Laban Movement Analysis's Effort Phrasing, followed by interaction with live E-guitar/electronic music. How does the metal tools alter the use of force within repetition? How do we transition from concrete action to abstract movement?
The electric guitar will keep sending signals to intervene in a looping sample, how does the body respond to this while still repeating its own actions?
As repetition serves as a structural improvisational tool and sets a frame, how do we break it and find new freedom? In a space of strong limitations, how do we find our “escape exit”?
