The workshop explores in six times the description of perceptions and impressions in life, emphasizing the richness and depth conveyed by the term "spannungsvoll" (tense or suspenseful) compared to simpler descriptors like "beautiful" or "interesting." The focus is on the direct connection between sensory experiences, body tone, and the perception of tension.
Participants aim to feel and understand tension in music through body awareness, where movement flow plays a crucial role. The workshop delves into how tension is built in music and how it can be sensed and applied through movement. Different pieces of music are examined from the perspective of tension, allowing participants to use their bodies to grasp how composers embodied their works.
Spannung (tension) is not only explored in the context of music but also in interpersonal relationships. The participants work on feeling, enduring, and actively influencing tension in their relationships. The workshop's goals include exploring the relationship between music and movement through auditory, visual, motoric, and kinesthetic listening, differentiating between personal body tension and movement quality, and experiencing and building tension relationships through group interaction and improvisation.
As an example, the chosen theme for the last session is "Building and releasing tension through the gaze." The rationale is based on previous sessions focusing on tension in strength and time, often combining differentiated body tension and movement quality with music. The aim now is to provide another dimension to the concept of tension by exploring how it is spatially perceived and how diverse tension relationships can be built. The notion of tension is emphasized within relationships, building on the earlier exploration of tension in relationships within the space. The specific focus in this session is on the concrete means of gaze – seeing, observing, focusing, and searching – offering interactive possibilities for expression. The participants' experiences from previous sessions enrich the theme, supporting various ways of seeing.
